Dodge and Chrysler Ending Production???

Chrysler Cars at All Star Chrysler near Ellisville

We thought that title might get your attention! Dodge and Chrysler are not ending production, so no need to worry. They are talking about ending production on the right hand driving models. While this does not really apply to us here in the St. Louis area, it is going to make a global impact. Let’s look a little deeper into this.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is reportedly bringing an end to right-hand-drive production of Chrysler and Dodge vehicles at its Windsor and Brampton factories in Canada. FCA had already pulled the plug on Chrysler and Dodge’s UK efforts, but it looks as if it will now exit other RHD markets in South Africa, New Zealand, Japan, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Australia, too.

The report, which initiated in South Africa, suggested that the Chrysler 300 will be available in Australia despite the move, but FCA itself has said it’s still fully committed to right-hand-drive markets. The basis of the claims was a quote from FCA South Africa CEO Robin van Rensburg, who suggested Chrysler and Dodge were out due to them no longer being produced in RHD configuration in North America.

“FCA announced in early 2015 that 2017 would be the last year Chrysler products would be offered in the UK, citing the need to concentrate on the Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Jeep brands, as well as dwindling sales, as the reasons behind the decision. Dodge left the UK market back in 2010.”-msn.com

We are not super surprised by this decision, but it has us wondering if FCA will be expanding the Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Jeep lines in the UK, and maybe here too. In the mean time, head to All Star Chrysler near Ellisville and check out their huge selection of Chrysler Cars.

But How Does it Work?

Ram 2500 at All Star Dodge Ram near St. Louis

Have you ever wondered how the engine on the Ram 2500 at All Star Dodge Ram near St. Louis works? Today we would like to provide you with a basic explanation on how the engine works. Remember, there is a lot more going on under the hood of the Ram 2500 than what we can explain here, but we think you are going to like learning about these powerful engines.

Most pickup trucks sold today have internal combustion engines. Passenger vehicles are powered by two main types of engines: compression, aka diesel, and spark ignition, aka gasoline.

Both spark ignition and compression ignition engines can work on a two- or four-stroke cycle. The more common of the two for automobiles, and certainly pickups, is the four-stroke. If we follow the path of the air entering a four-stroke engine, the strokes (or stages) in order are:

  1. Intake: The piston moves from top dead center to bottom dead center with the intake valve(s) open. If fuel is injected into the throttle body or intake manifold, then it is pulled into the cylinder with the air. If fuel is directly injected, then it may be injected near the end of the intake stroke and into the beginning of the compression stroke.
  2. Compression: All valves close and the piston moves from bottom to top dead center. Near the end of the compression stroke the spark plug fires, igniting the air-fuel mixture.
  3. Power: The piston moves from top to bottom dead center with all valves closed. The air inside the cylinder expands from the combustion of the air-fuel mixture. This provides the driving force for the engine.
  4. Exhaust: The piston moves from bottom to top dead center with the exhaust valve(s) open, pushing the exhaust out. (This information is compiled from news.pickuptrucks.com.)

Ram Trucks at All Star Dodge Ram near St. Louis

We are super excited to announce that the Ram line of trucks is getting to release a couple of new trim levels on their trucks. These trucks will soon be available at All Star Dodge Ram near St. Louis. These new trims pay homage to the Lone Star State!

Shown at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, Ram unveiled two new special appearance packages for its pickups that have a distinctly Texan twang. The 2018 Ram Laramie Longhorn Southfork, named after the real-life ranch made famous by J.R. Ewing on TV’s “Dallas,” features upgraded leather upholstery in a distinct brown and beige color combo, plus leather wrapped around its pillar-mounted grab handles. Its steering wheel combines walnut wood with—you guessed it—leather. If that’s not enough, the truck’s headliner and visor mirrors are suede. The Laramie Longhorn serves as the lineup’s new flagship and it features bold “Longhorn” badging to match.

“Ram says it’ll offer the Southfork package on 2018 model year 1500, 2500, and 3500 versions of its trucks in both rear- and four-wheel drive. Additionally, Ram is extending its Lone Star Silver Edition package to include 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty versions of the truck lineup in addition to the half-ton Ram 1500. The appearance package builds on the Texas-only Lone Star package with additional chrome details outside, side steps, and 20-inch alloy wheels.”-thecarconnection.com

Why is Auto Service So Important?

Service Center at All Star Dodge Ram near St. Louis

We all know we are supposed to properly maintain our auto vehicles, but what exactly does that mean, and why? Today we want to talk about why it is important to get all of your Dodge, Ram, Jeep, and Chrysler cars, trucks, and SUVs serviced at All Star Dodge Ram near St. Louis.

Regularly servicing your car can make the difference between it running smoothly and fuel efficiently, and the risk of it breaking down and incurring an expensive and unexpected repair. It can be a false economy to avoid regular car servicing, since expected wear and tear requiring minor maintenance, can fast become a costly major repair or replacement.

The service schedule for your vehicle will depend on the manufacturer and also depend on the car’s mileage and age.

“We have defined an Interim Service as having 35 main action points including, four changes and four top-ups. The changes include engine oil, oil filter and wheel nut torque (depending on the vehicle’s mileage and manufacturer specification). The dealership will also check and change the tire pressure and top up the clutch fluid, power steering reservoir, brake fluid level and windscreen washer if required.”-automyze.theaa.com

The dealership will also perform checks on other parts of the vehicle and if these parts need changing they will communicate this with you in advance of carrying out the work to make sure you are aware of what additional work is required and whether any further costs may be incurred.

If you have any questions on the kind of servicing done on at the All Star service center, just ask! Their friendly and factory trained technicians would love to answer any questions that you might have. Stop by the All Star service center today!

The Future of FCA

New Cars at All Star Chrysler near St. Louis

Fall is nearly upon us – the weather is cooling off, leaves are starting to fall, and school has started (and all the parents are beaming with delight). This is also the time of year in which we start to get glimpses of the next year’s models. We start seeing spy shots and reading reviews about the new models. We wanted to take a look a little further into the future as to what we might see from FCA (Fiat Chrysler). Soon you will be able to get these great new vehicles at All Star Chrysler near St. Louis.

  • Around 2018, the Dodge Journey is to become a rear wheel drive crossover, á la Maserati Levante; its role as a front wheel drive crossover is likely to go to a Chrysler. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio crossover is pretty much here; according to Automotive News, the Journey will be made on the same line as the Stelvio and imported to the US. Chances are the Journey will be heavier and have lower performance, but also a much lower price.
  • Dodge Avenger / Dodge Barracuda is the upcoming rear wheel drive midsized car (the name may change).
  • A new Dodge Charger and Challenger have been pushed back to 2020-21 (so they can persuade critics that Chrysler had no part in the pricier Alfa Romeo Giulia? Insiders say no, they just needed more time). The 2021 Charger and Challenger will have a base four-cylinder turbo, and a turbo six; Hemi options are likely to be the 392 and possibly the Hellcat, but the 5.7 will probably be replaced by the turbo-six. Note: Automotive News wrote that the fully new Charger and Challenger are coming in 2018.

Did We See a Chrysler 300 Hellcat?!?!

Chrysler 300 at All Star Chrysler near St. Louis

Now is the time of year in which we start to see the different spy shots of the new models and trims that might becoming out for the new model year. We happy to be pretty pumped because we are pretty sure that we saw a Hellcat version of the Chrysler 300! This is a huge deal because usually there are only Hellcat trims on the muscle cars of the FCA family, like the Challenger and the Charger. However, we are pretty sure that we saw a 300 Hellcat! Let’s talk about what we saw!

The test vehicle, spotted chillin’ in the open at a random apartment or condo complex, was wearing Nitto NT05R P315/40R-18 drag-radial rubber wrapped around the same type of wheels seen on Dodge Demon mules. The massive tires stuck out of the 300’s stock bodywork (like on the Demon mules), leading us to believe that this car could also receive wider fender flares like the Demon’s. Though the mule does have Brembo calipers providing the stopping power, the brake rotors appear to be smaller than those found on Hellcats and the Demon, and they have a different slot pattern as well.

“The mule made Hellcat noises, sounds you’re likely familiar with if you’ve heard one in person. This, despite the fact that there are no noticeable scoops or intakes for extra cooling, which would hint at the presence of the monster engine. At minimum, this car could mean that Chrysler is gearing up to refresh the 300 SRT for the overseas markets where it’s still sold, bringing online a wide-bodied, 707-hp, Hellcat-powered version of the big sedan.”-caranddriver.com

While we can only wait for the Chrysler 300 Hellcat to come out, which we hope will be on the next model year, we will happily drive the current Chrysler 300 from All Star Chrysler near St. Louis!

Jeep Compass New for 2018!

Jeep Compass at All Star Jeep Dealer near Florissant

It is a beautiful day in the St. Louis area! This cooler temperatures are delightful and we are loving it – It’s giving us a great opportunity to check out the inventory of Jeep vehicles on the All Star Jeep Dealer lot near Florissant. While we love all the different models in the Jeep lineup, today we want to focus on the great changes that we see coming for the Jeep Compass in 2018.

The new Jeep Compass is a continuation of the original concept — a tough-bodied, compact crossover with one model engineered for off-roading and three for bad weather, all in a Grand Cherokee-style skin. It carries the Chrysler “Tigershark” 2.4 liter engine, with manual and automatic transmissions, with a two-liter turbo four supposedly a year or three off.

“Power ratings are 180 hp at 6,400 rpm and 175 lb-ft of torque at 3,900 rpm, and a peak towing capacity of 2,000 lb (with tow package and AWD only). Electronic stop-start comes with both automatic transmissions, and includes a secondary battery and upgraded components. The engine has coil-on-plug ignition with dual plugs, and an automatic tensioner on the single-belt accessory drive.”-allpar.com

There is just one engine, with three different transmissions. A Fiat six-speed manual is standard on the Sport and Latitude, with FWD or AWD; a six-speed Aisin is optional with FWD. All wheel drive Compasses can be ordered with the optional nine speed automatic (not a six speed automatic); the Trailhawk is nine-speed only.

Take advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend and check out the different Jeep models at All Star. The team at All Star would be happy to take you on a test drive of the current Jeep Compass and share with you all of the amazing features that it has to offer.
