Chrysler 200: Generations of Greatness

Chrysler 200 at All Star Chrysler near St. Peters

When you need a great sedan, you think Chrysler. If you want a great sedan that is a little smaller, but still very roomy, you think Chrysler 200. Though the 200 has not been around for as long as some of the other models in the lineup, it has still seen some great generations. Today we want to take a look back at the start of the Chrysler 200. You can still get your own Chrysler 200 at All Star Chrysler near St. Peters.

The first generation Chrysler 200 was a restyled, rebadged and re-engineered version of the third generation Chrysler Sebring that began production in 2006. Although the JS platform had been retained, there were many cosmetic and powertrain changes to the 200. The 2.4 L four-cylinder 173 hp (129 kW) 166 lb·ft (225 N·m) engine with either a four-speed or six-speed automatic transmission carried over. Chrysler’s new Pentastar 3.6 L V6 engine was also offered with a six-speed automatic transmission, generating 283 hp (211 kW) and 260 lb·ft (350 N·m) of torque. A flex-fuel version of the 3.6 L Pentastar engine was also available. Other changes included stiffer body mounts, revised suspension geometry with a softer ride rate, a new rear sway bar, and upgraded tires. The 200 was also more highly equipped than the Sebring. Chrysler added features such as LED lighting, thicker seat cushioning with higher quality materials, along with new measures to decrease noise, vibration, and harshness.

“The 200 and its badge engineered variant the Dodge Avenger, were ranked the “Most American Made” sedans and convertibles by The Kogod Made in America Auto Index in 2013.”-wikipedia.com

Should You Check the Accident Report?

Used Car Specials at All Star Dodge Ram near Fenton

When you go to buy a used car at All Star Dodge Ram near Fenton and you are looking through the inventory specials, you might have some questions about some of your favorite models on the lot. One question that we hear on a regular basis is whether or not you should look at the accident history report. This is up to you, of course! However, if you decide you might want to look at it, we wanted to let you know what you would be seeing, where these reports come from, and what they mean.

How do you get it? Using the vehicle identification number (VIN), you can get a detailed report of the car’s history from Carfax or AutoCheck. It’s a quick way to know if you should seriously consider buying this car.

What am I going to find out? Here is some of the important information you’ll learn:

    • Does this car have a clean title? If a car’s been in a serious accident, fire or flood, and was “totaled” by the insurance company (declared a total loss) it still might be driveable. However, the insurance company will issue a “salvage title” to alert future buyers. Steer clear of cars with a salvage title because it kills the resale value, and the car might still have hidden problems.
    • Serious accidents are reported to the insurance company and will probably be on the vehicle history report.
    • It’s nice to think the car you’re interested in was driven to church by a little old lady for its entire life. If you order the report, you’ll know for sure each time it changed hands.
    • Some reports show if required maintenance was done on time and where the work was performed.

We hope that you found this information to be helpful, now head to All Star and check out their selection of used car inventory specials!

There are so many great vehicles that you are sure to find one that really suits your driving lifestyle and suits your bank account.

You might be wondering what an inventory special really is. One reason might be because they have too many of that specific car and want to get some of them off of their lot. Too many cars on the lot could be because the manufacturer sent too many to the dealership. It could also be because the next model year is getting ready to come out and the dealer wants to get some of the current year’s models out of the way. Sometimes All Star offers inventory specials on some of their new cars to help raise brand awareness. For those of you who do not know what brand awareness is, it is information known by the general public about a given product or line of products. Inside the Chrysler 200

Chrysler 200 at All Star Chrysler in Bridgeton

Though the Chrysler 200 is no longer in production, you can still get one of your own at All Star Chrysler in Bridgeton.  Chrysler decided to discontinue this fun model for uncertain reasons, but we have a lot of reasons why we think that you will love the 200! Let’s take a look at the interior!

The Chrysler 200 seats five people. In any trim level, the best seats in the house are in the front, where there’s a decent amount of passenger room and comfortable cushions. (Some say that the 200’s sleek appearance cuts into seating space in the back seat, but we think that is subjective.)

If you want the look and feel of an upscale sedan but are working with a more modest budget, the Chrysler 200’s cabin will likely appeal to you. Standouts of its classy design include plenty of soft-touch materials, a sleek infotainment center (standard in all 200 models above the base LX), and a rotary knob to change gears.

“The Chrysler 200 doesn’t come up short for cargo space. Its 16-cubic-foot trunk is one of the largest in the class, besting those found in sedans like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The 200 gives you enough space to haul several golf bags (each about 4 cubic feet) or luggage for a family trip (the average carry-on suitcase takes up about 1.4 cubic feet). When you want to haul over-sized items, you can fold down the 60/40 split rear seats (though the seats don’t lay completely flat).”-cars.usnews.com

New Millennium – New Durango

Dodge Durango at All Star Dodge Ram in Bridgeton

This month we have been taking a look at how some of our favorite Dodge Cars got their start. Today we are focusing on the impressive and capable Dodge Durango that you can find at All Star Dodge Ram in Bridgeton.

Though the Dodge Durango was officially introduced in 1993, the introduction of a new millennium meant some delightful changes – changes that some believe were the start of amazing model that we love today. The successful Dodge Durango underwent numerous changes for 2000. There was a new Sport model, with new fabrics and two-tone fascias; and, for all models, optional factory installed running boards, and five-spoke aluminum wheels. There were additional color keyed components for all models, including the steering wheel, floor console, various bezels, levers, and switches, and air outlets. There were newly redesigned gathered leather front and intermediate seats in the SLT+ group, with maple woodgrain bezels and accents and a leather wrapped steering wheel.

“The 4.7 liter V8, available for the moment just on four wheel drive models, was new, and was combined with a new 45RFE automatic transmission that had four regular gears and a special kickdown gear for better highway passing. The 318 remained for rear wheel drive buyers; it had better “grunt” but lower peak horsepower and torque, and lower gas mileage. The 4.7 reported cost the company much less to build than the outgoing 318 or 360 (5.2 or 5.9).”-allpar.com

4×4 models were improved in numerous ways, with a new front axle that was better made, higher capacity, and lower weight; a smoother and easier to use transfer case shifter; and an optional full-time four wheel drive transfer case.

To see what the 2017 Dodge Durango has to offer, head to All Star today. Test drive the Durango and fall in love!

Muscle Car Glory Days

Dodge Charger at All Star Dodge near Arnold

Spring is upon us in the St. Louis area – things are coming back to life and the world just seems a little brighter. It is at these moments that we like to reflect on the history of some of our favorite vehicles, blame it on nostalgia. We want to take a look at the Dodge Charger and its early beginnings. Of course you can get the latest Dodge Charger at All Star Dodge near Arnold.

January 1, 1966 at the annual Rose Bowl Game audience was first shown Dodge Charger – the new flagship of Dodge car company. The main designer of the project was Carl Cameron. Sales began in mid-1966.

“In 1966, the feature of Charger becomes electric shaver grille – used completely hiding lights that are not used by Chrysler since 1942 (on some models of DeSoto division) – when the lights are open or closed grille looks solid piece. Inside, Dodge Charger has four stand alone anatomical seats, long console from front to rear. Rear seats and part of the console can be folded forwards and the boot partition allows you to place luggage inside the cabin. Many elements have been exclusive – door panels, dashboard lights, and others.”-carswithmuscle.com

All engine range have a choice of V8. Six-cylinder engines were not offered until 1968. In 1966, four engine choices were offered: the base 318 CID (5.2 l), 361 CID (5.9 L), 383 CID (6.3 L). The most popular was the 383 with 325 HP (242 kW ). Hemi 426 (7.0 l) was also available.

In late 1966 dealer installed optional spoiler on the trunk lid (because of the rules of participation in NASCAR). In 1966, the Dodge Charger was the first production car in the US equipped with a spoiler. Total production of Dodge Charger was 37344 units in 1966.

It was amazing how popular the Dodge Charger was upon its release, but it is not surprising just how much we still love this classic car.

Replacement is Coming!

Leningrad region, Russia , July 30, 2016 , Jeep Wrangler at sunset on grief Pulkovo, the Jeep Wrangler is a compact four wheel drive off road and sport utility vehicle

Jeep Patriot at All Star Jeep Dealer near Kirkwood

We have been a longtime fan of the Jeep Patriot that is available at All Star Jeep Dealer near Kirkwood. We found out earlier in the year that the Jeep Patriot was in its last year of production and that we would have to say goodbye to this model. The Patriot model is not the only one that is going away, the Jeep Compass is also going away. These two models being gone was going to mean a serious gap in the Jeep lineup. No worries though, Jeep decided to replace the Patriot and the Compass with a model that is a combination of all of their best features. We recently got to view some spy shots of the replacement model, and we want to share with you what we saw in the photos.

“Starting with the skin, it’s like Jeep’s designers scaled down the Grand Cherokee’s profile to fit on the new crossover’s stretched Renegade platform. The headlights, grille, and taillights looked like shrunken items from Jeep’s flagship crossover, too. This is good news – even after its 2011 facelift the Compass was a homely little thing, and the Patriot was boxy at a time when CUVs were going for smoother, more aerodynamic lines. Jeep’s new CUV is avoiding those mistakes by aping one of the company’s most popular designs.” -autoblog.com

Under hood, there are reports that FCA’s nine-speed automatic will be the only transmission choice. FCA will call on its new 2.0-liter, Hurricane four-cylinder engine, the spies claim, but we also expect the less powerful 2.4-liter, four-cylinder from the Renegade and Cherokee.

For more information on the existing Jeep Patriot, head to All Star. There is still time to get this great model before it is gone!
