Jeep Cherokee: A Wonderful SUV

Jeep Cherokee at All Star Jeep Dealer near Illinois

Spring is officially here in St. Louis, as the ridiculous amount of rain we have gotten over the last few days can attest to. (We hope that all of our readers are safe and sound, we know that the flooding has been incredibly dangerous. Please do not drive on flooded roads, the signs are posted for your safety.) Springtime makes us think of rebirth and of the history of our favorite automobiles. Today we want to take a look at the start of the Jeep Cherokee that is always available at All Star Jeep Dealer near Illinois.

The first Jeep Cherokee, launched in 1974, was simply a two-door version of the Jeep Wagoneer. In 1977, the Jeep Cherokee, still a low-end version of the Wagoneer, was available with both two and four doors.

After ten years, a new and completely different Cherokee was brought out, which would revolutionize American SUVs. This new Jeep Cherokee had a shorter wheelbase than the original, and a shorter length – seven and 21 inches respectively – helping it to check in at a svelte 3,100 pounds, a thousand pounds less than the Wagoneer-based model, around the same weight as a Plymouth Valiant. “The new Cherokee was more economical, and easier to drive both on and off road. Again, both two and four door models were available; a pickup version called the Comanche was built on the same assembly line. In front, a multi-link front suspension with a track bar and coil springs was used, with recirculating ball steering; traditional leaf springs held up the rear.”-allpar.com

The first two generations of the Jeep Cherokee were the beginnings of the wonderful Jeep Cherokee we know and love today. Learn more about the Cherokee at All Star today!

Dodge Charger at All Star Dodge near Ballwin

The Dodge Charger at All Star near Ballwin is an iconic piece of American history. It was introduced at the beginning of the golden age of muscle cars and was well loved. For a time, the Dodge Charger was not in production, but in the mid-2000’s Dodge brought the Charger out of retirement and back into the spotlight. We want to go back and learn about the start of the Dodge Charger.

“Dodge was in desperate need of a car that appealed to anyone under the age of 80, and the way to do that quickly was to develop a fastback version of its Coronet midsize car. That car appeared in the fall of 1965 as the 1966 Charger.”-edmonds.com

Except for the two-door fastback roof and some unique trim, the Charger was every inch a Coronet. That meant it was a simple unibody structure with an unequal length control arm front suspension that used torsion bars as a springing medium and a solid rear axle on semielliptical leaf springs in the back.

And “every inch a Coronet” also meant that the Charger was pretty big. At 203.6 inches long it was a full 22 inches longer than a ’66 Mustang and 3.5 inches longer than the four-door 2K6 Charger. The first Charger’s 117-inch wheelbase was relatively long for the era in which it was designed, though it seems modest by 21st-century standards when engineers try to shove the wheels out to a car’s corners (the 2K6 Charger’s wheelbase is 120 inches). While the styling of the Charger’s front clip was similar to that of the Coronet’s, there was a full-width convex grille in front with hidden headlights that gave the car a unique look.

Ram Power Wagon Getting ‘Macho’

DETROIT MI/USA - JANUARY 14 2016: Dodge RAM 1500 Rebel truck grille at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), one of the most influential car shows in the world each year.

Ram Trucks at All Star Dodge Ram in MO

It is the time of year when the different auto manufacturers begin to leak information about what the next year’s models might look like and have in the way of features. Ram is no different. One such bit of information that was leaked was regarding the Power Wagon trim that will be available for the Ram truck models. This power wagon trim was designed for those who want to take their truck off road.

Upon seeing the sneak peeks of this truck, some have described it hearkens back to the 1979 “Macho” Power Wagon driven by Gerald McRaney’s character in the classic TV detective show “Simon and Simon.” This is apparently due to the graphics package, which do include some powerful looking vertical bedside stripes.

“Along with the vertical bedside stripes, the Power Wagon now sports a black, snout-like grille just like the one on the smaller Ram 1500 Rebel, black metal bumpers and front skid plate, and RAM lettering across the tailgate that’s big enough to read from space.”

“Standard seats feature synthetic upholstery embossed with the tread pattern from the Power Wagon’s 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, while leather is optional. The overall look of the interior is toughened up with iron grey metallic-painted trim.”

“The Power Wagon comes with a 410 hp 6.4-liter Hemi V8 under its bulging hood, Ram’s “articulink” front suspension with detachable sway bar for extreme off-roading, front and rear locking differentials, 14.3 inches of log-hopping ground clearance, and a 12,000-pound Warn winch with 125 feet of cable.”

This level of commitment on the part of Ram to put out such an impressive off-roading truck is great. It is nice to see this auto maker put out a vehicle that is designed for sport driving. For more information on the specs of the Power Wagon, head to the All Star Dodge Ram Dealer in MO.

Dodge Dealers Announce Refresh for 2015 Charger

new Dodge Charger in MOAll Star new Dodge Dealer in St. Louis, home of a wide selection of new Dodge Chargers, is pleased to announce the new 2015 Dodge Charger is scheduled to be unveiled in mid-2014.

The redesign may not be a complete revamping, (which may be postponed until around 2017) but in late 2012 Chrysler announced that it would have an “unexpected L-car refresh, covering Charger and 300/300C,” according to AllPar.com. So the 2015 Charger will be a “polish-and-update of the current cars.”

Many car experts felt that the Charger and 300C would receive an 8 speed automatic as standard in 2015, which would make the V8 Police Car more competitive against Chevy’s V8 Caprice Police Vehicle.

A major revision of the front suspension is less likely, “moving from the Mercedes-influenced high-wishbone design to Maserati’s new low-stacked wishbone, as seen in the Maserati Ghibli. However, Chrysler engineers are likely to do what they can to edge closer to the livelier Maserati configuration, without causing too much disruption at the plant.”

The Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Chrysler 300C are each expected to be phased in at various points in time, which according to AllPar.com may limit just how many changes are feasible.  Ralph Gilles has reported that the Chrysler 300C will not be “moving to the new Chrysler styling theme for this refresh, because the changes would be too extensive, the rear suspension may or may not adopt some of the Ghibli tuning changes, where time and cost permit,” says AllPar.

“The speculative rendering above wraps current Dodge cues around the shape of the Ghibli, and might be a rough pointer as to where the Charger will end up in its 2017-2020 reincarnation,” says Dodge News report, AllPar.com.
