Fiat Chrysler Spin-Offs

New Chrysler Cars at All Star Chrysler near Saint Charles

We all know that Fiat Chrysler makes some of the finest automobiles on the market. What you might not know is that Fiat Chrysler also is a huge manufacturer of auto parts, even outside of their Chrysler, Ram, Jeep, and Dodge models. There has been speculation lately that FCA would be spinning off some of the manufacturing of these parts into their own specific units. Let’s take a look and see what we mean.

“On August 22, 2017, market speculation was rife that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V., a global manufacturer and marketer of automobiles and commercial vehicles, might spin-off upscale brands Maserati and Alfa Romeo, along with its components operations including Magneti Marelli. In April 2017, in response to an analyst query on the 1Q17 earnings call, Mr. Sergio Marchionne, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FCAU acknowledged that the Jeep and Ram brands are large and strong enough to exist as independent entities, similar to Ferrari after its spin-off,” (forbes.com). Post spin-off, Maserati will continue to design, engineering, develop, manufacture, globally distribute and sale luxury vehicles under its brand. On the other hand, Fiat Chrysler will continue to manufacture and mass-market automobiles and commercial vehicles in the regions NAFTA, LATAM, APAC and EMEA under the brands Abarth, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Fiat Professional and Lancia brands.

“FCAU shares have increased 18% in the last two weeks and surged 10% since the rumors of spin-off of Maserati and Alfa Romeo brands surfaced,”(forbes.com). The spin-off speculation followed immediately after Chinese automobile manufacturer Great Wall Motors confirmed its intention to buy the iconic Jeep brand. FCAU denied the news stating that it has not been approached by the automaker for Jeep brand or any other matter related to its business.

All Star Chrysler near Saint Charles will continue to carry all of the auto parts you might need to properly service your vehicles!

Buying a Car – Money Matters

Guaranteed Financing at All Star Dodge near Chesterfield

It is a simple truth, you cannot buy a new or used car, truck, or SUV without money. (Maybe if you are doing an even trade, but that’s a topic for a different discussion.) Some people prefer to save up and pay cash for a new or used car, others prefer to finance through a bank or private institution, while others like to take advantage of the guaranteed financing offered by the Finance Department at All Star Dodge near Chesterfield. Today we want to share a little bit about some of the money matters associated with buying a new or used car from All Star.

You need to know your credit history – Most people who shop for cars will need a loan. How much that loan costs will depend on your credit history, and knowing your credit history will give you a better idea what to expect from lenders. The Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act of 2003 (FACTA) allows every consumer to get a free copy of his or her credit report once a year from each of the three major credit-reporting agencies (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax). Get a copy of your credit report, and check it for accuracy. Pay the extra few dollars to get your credit score as well, as it is one of the major factors that banks use to determine your creditworthiness. (This information was compiled from caranddriver.com and bankrate.com.)

What do you do if you run your credit history and find out that it isn’t great? Will you still be able to get a car? The answer is yes! All Star offers guaranteed financing to anyone who shops on their lot. The finance team will be able to get you a loan for your All Star vehicle purchase!

Ram 3500 Top in Class Performance!

Ram 3500 at All Star Dodge Ram near Mehlville

We are so pumped for the 2018 model year! FCA has decided to make some wonderful changes to a lot of the vehicles including the Ram 3500 that will soon be available at All Star Dodge Ram near Mehlville. We are anxiously  awaiting the Ram 3500’s arrival because it has been named top in its class for performance – let’s talk about why and how the Ram 3500 got this award.

The 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty pickup has received upgrades that put it at the top of its class when it comes to torque and towing capabilities, the company announced. A revamp to the optional 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel engine pushes output to a segment-best 930 lb-ft of peak torque, 30 more than in 2017. To fully leverage that extra muscle, Ram Engineering developed a new fifth-wheel tow hitch that allows the 3500 Heavy Duty pull up to a 30,000-pound trailer.

To get the extra torque, the revised Cummins V8 now has a higher boost limit thanks to a new variable-geometry turbo unit and an increased fuel-flow rate. Ram points out these changes do not impact efficiency or durability. With a 30,000-pound capacity, the new fifth-wheel hitch will permit the Ram 3500 Heavy Duty pickup to haul a trailer that previously could only have been handled by a Class 4 or Class 5 truck.

“Ram maintains capability leadership by delivering the highest-ever torque rating for a pickup truck and heaviest fifth-wheel trailer towing capacity,” noted Mike Manley, head of Jeep and Ram brands for FCA. “We understand the attributes most important to our customers within the heavy-duty segment; they demand hard-working, long-lasting capability.” The 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty pickup arrives in dealerships this month.

What to Know When Buying a CPO

Certified Pre Owned Dodge Ram at All Star Dodge Ram near Fenton

Last time we talked about a couple of things that you should know when going to buy a new car from All Star Dodge Ram near Fenton. Today we want to continue on with the same topic, but this time, focus on how it applies to buying CPO, or certified pre-owned vehicles.

1. Know when you should buy – Dealers run on a month-to-month basis. At the end of the month, many will accept lower offers to reach their goals and qualify for manufacturer bonuses. If you’re not picky about having the latest and greatest, the end of a model year is a great time to get good deals on remaining inventory. And December—particularly the last week before the new year—is a slow time for car sales, so if you can hack some time out of your holiday-shopping schedule, it’s a wise time to buy.

“Another thing to consider, most dealerships are busier on weekends. The weekdays are generally slow, especially in the morning. If you come into the dealership on a midweek morning when business is slow, the salespeople are more likely to make a good deal as well. They need sales and they want to look busy, which keeps them motivated to give you a better deal and earn your business.”-caranddriver.com

2. Make an appointment with a sales manager or other sales team member – Once your research is done and you are ready to head to the dealership to purchase a CPO car, call ahead and make an appointment. By calling a sales manager to make your appointment, you communicate that you are serious about this transaction and know what you are doing. This also allows your sales team member to get some information from you before your appointment, shortening the amount of time you will have to spend at the dealership.

Let’s say that you have decided to buy a new car from All Star Dodge near North County. You have to ask yourself, “what do I need to know before I go to the dealership?” A lot of people ask themselves this question simply because they don’t go car shopping enough to know everything, or because car shopping stresses them out. Today we want to share with you a few things that you should know before you head to All Star to buy your new car.

  1. Check the All Star site for rebates – Many buyers will qualify for multiple rebates, some of which may not even be made public. You might belong to organizations or receive coupons in the mail that entitle you to additional rebates. Be aware of all rebates for which you qualify and make sure you receive them.
  2. Check your credit history – Most people who shop for cars will need a loan. How much that loan costs will depend on your credit history, and knowing your credit history will give you a better idea what to expect from lenders. “The Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act of 2003 (FACTA) allows every consumer to get a free copy of his or her credit report once a year from each of the three major credit-reporting agencies (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax). Get a copy of your credit report, and check it for accuracy. Small but Mighty

Jeep Renegade at All Star Jeep Dealer near Kirkwood

So you want a lot of power but don’t want a huge SUV, what vehicle do you get? You get the Jeep Renegade from All Star Jeep Dealer near Kirkwood. This wonderful vehicle packs all of the punch you would expect from a Jeep without the bulk that some SUV models carry. Let’s take a look at this small but mighty Renegade.

The Renegade is the smallest and least expensive model in Jeep’s expansive SUV lineup, slotting below the Patriot, Compass, Wrangler, Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee. The Renegade shares the same platform as the Fiat 500X and is one of the most affordable SUVs on the market. The Renegade is one of the few compact crossovers that offers a manual transmission with all-wheel drive.

“The 2018 Jeep Renegade will likely carry over the same powertrains: a 180-hp 2.4-liter I-4 mated to a nine-speed automatic, or a 160-hp 1.4-liter turbo-four mated to a six-speed manual.  Renegades route power to the front wheels or to an available all-wheel-drive system,” (motortrend.com). The Trailhawk model with Jeep Active Drive Low, a 20:1 crawl ratio and Rock mode will likely return, and it’s possible Jeep might freshen the Renegade lineup with new features, colors, and maybe a new special-edition model for 2018. Don’t be surprised to see the base Sport trim and highly capable Trailhawk model return for 2018. The Renegade will be a good fit for those who want more comfort and practicality than you get from a Wrangler and more style and flair than the outdated, last-generation Compass model that might still be on dealer lots.

A Family Friendly Hybrid

Chrysler Pacifica at All Star Chrysler near Arnold

For a long time it has been that if you wanted a good family vehicle, you were going to have to sacrifice on fuel economy. Certainly you couldn’t have a big van, SUV, or crossover that wouldn’t just guzzle fuel! Chrysler saw this as a challenge and decided to design a family friendly SUV/minivan that was also a hybrid. The Chrysler Pacifica is that family friendly hybrid vehicle, let’s learn more about it!

The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica debuted for the market in 2016 (for the 2017 model year) with its plug-in hybrid option coming later that year. The curvy exterior and drive dynamic of the van made it popular with the automotive press. Adding in the Pacifica Hybrid as a plug-in option was just icing on an already well-made cake.

The standard powertrain for the 2017 Pacifica is a 3.6-liter V6 that is well-known to those familiar with Chrysler’s engine lineup. That engine runs through a nine-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels. The Pacifica Hybrid has the same basic setup, but sees the Pentastar V6 modified to an Atkinson-cycle for more efficiency and then paired with a dual electric motor setup and an electronically variable transmission (EVT). A 16 kWh battery pack provides power to the motors. (This information is compiled from newatlas.com and chrysler.com.)

“The EVT is a single-input transmission designed by Chrysler specifically for this plug-in powertrain. It has a one-way clutch which allows both motors to act in parallel to send full torque to the wheels. Chrysler credits this clutch system, positioned at the output side of the motor and the input side of the transmission, and the EVT’s ratio enhancement as the reason the 2017 Pacifica Hybrid can accelerate to up to 75 mph (121 km/h) on electric power alone.”-newatlas.com

New Wrangler Unlimited Interior!

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited at All Star Jeep Dealer near Ladue

It is spy shot season! For those of you who do not know what a shy shot is, it is a photo of a mule (unfinished prototype of a new model or trim) that allows us to speculate on what the finished new product will look like. We have known for a while that the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited was going to get a redesign for the 2018 model year – what we did not realize was that the interior was going to get redesigned as well! Let’s take a look at what we saw on those spy shots

No longer will Wrangler owners be forced to peck haphazardly at the small, slow-to-react infotainment touchscreen that is the best offered in higher-end Wranglers today. As seen in this seemingly top-of-the-line mule, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will adopt the latest iteration of Fiat Chrysler’s easy-to-operate and quick-to-respond system in the form of Uconnect 3.0. Although the spy photographer didn’t get close enough to measure the screen, we presume the top-end unit will measure 8.4 inches as it does in other FCA products (expect lower-end 2018 Wranglers to run the smaller but still intuitive and quick 5.0-inch touchscreen setup).

These shots also allow us to see many other buttons scattered across the new Wrangler’s center stack. Directly below the screen sit the truck’s automatic climate controls and a pair of big rubberized knobs for the audio system’s volume and tune functions. “Notably, this mule also features buttons for parking-assist sensors, engine stop/start functionality, and a heated steering wheel, the last of which likely will be appreciated by denizens of snow-covered areas.”-caranddriver.com

More Secret Information Revealed!

Jeep Wrangler at All Star Jeep Dealer near Clayton

Now is the time of year that we get to see all of the mysterious spy shots that people are capturing of the latest Jeep models that will be introduced to the market soon. The most recent spy shots that we got to see where that of the Jeep Wrangler. Remember, the current Jeep Wrangler is already at All Star Jeep Dealer near Clayton, but the new Wrangler will be there soon!

The images that we got to take a look at reveal a whole lot about what options and configurations the new-body-style 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be getting.

Jeep Wrangler updates are a big deal because the car is an enthusiast favorite. Actually it’s almost everyone’s favorite, if you believe Jeep-parent company Fiat Chrysler’s sales reports. The Wrangler has been with us in its current iteration since 2012, in its current body style since 2007, yet the company is still selling a whopping 18,000 machines a month.

The Wrangler’s so beloved because its capability and unrefined purity give it earnest personality… something so many cars are lacking in 2017.

The incoming Jeep Wrangler will be the JL. It is most likely that the JL Jeep will be objectively superior to the JK in every practically appreciable respects. One of those, according to this latest leak, is a Selec-Trac Full Time 4WD system.

“With the exception of a few weird limited-run trims, Jeep Wranglers have always had 4WD. That functionality has been the centerpiece of the machine’s off-road capability. These vehicles drive in RWD by default, and can only be switched into 4WD manually with a big transfer case lever next to the shifter. That same lever can also put the vehicle into low-range for huge torque multiplication and crawling abilities.”-truckyeah.jalopnik.com
