A Look Back at the Dodge Grand Caravan

Dodge Grand Caravan at All Star Dodge near St. Louis

It is nice to every once and a while take a look back at the history of a given vehicle. Today we want to look back at the Dodge Grand Caravan that is available at All Star Dodge near St. Louis.

Introduced in November 1983 for the 1984 model year, the first minivan of all time, the Dodge Caravan was based on the Chrysler S platform, an extended derivative of the Chrysler K platform. For the 1987 model year, a longer wheelbase was introduced, which was called the Grand Caravan. It was still based on the Chrysler S platform.

Since the beginning of production in the fall of 1983, over 11 million Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth minivans have been sold.

1984-1990

The first generation Caravans used the Chrysler S platform, which was closely related to the K-cars (Plymouth Reliant and Dodge Aries. There were three trim levels on the first generation Caravan: base, mainstream SE and upscale LE. The Caravan was on Car and Driver magazine’s Ten Best list for 1985. Both a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission and a five-speed manual were available with the four-cylinder engines, including the turbocharged 2.5 L (this was a rare combination). A cargo version of the Caravan, called the Mini Ram Van, was also introduced in 1984. It was renamed as the Caravan C/V for 1989, and was discontinued after 1995.

1991-1995

The 1991 through 1995 the Caravan used the Chrysler AS platform. These were the last minivans that were derived from the Chrysler K platform.

1996-2000

The 1996 redesign used the Chrysler NS platform and included a driver’s side sliding door, a first for Chrysler. All wheel drive was reintroduced in 1997. The Caravan was Motor Trend magazine’s Car of the Year for 1996. The Caravan was also on Car and Driver magazine’s Ten Best list for 1996 and 1997. (This information was compiled from dodge-caravan.net and dodge.com.)

Chrysler is on a Roll!

New Chrysler Cars at All Star Chrysler near Saint Charles

We are huge fans of FCA and are always happy to hear when they are going very well. It was released recently that FCA profits for the first quarter were astounding! This is good news because it means that we will see more great Chrysler Cars going into production, we hope at least. Let’s take a look at why things went so well for FCA during the first quarter.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said Wednesday it earned a profit of $698.2 million (641 million euro) during the first quarter, a 34% gain compared with the same period a year ago, driven primarily by profits in Europe and gains by its Maserati brand.

The quarterly earnings, a record for the company since it was formed from the merger of Fiat and Chrysler, increased from $521 million (478 million euro) the automaker earned during the same period last year. “We would couch the results as a good start to 2017. We had a record performance,” in terms of pre-tax profits, said Fiat Chrysler CFO Richard Palmer.

The automaker’s profits, which were slightly better that what investors expected, are a good sign for the automaker as it faces an increasingly difficult sales environment in the U.S. and is trying to achieve the goals set out in a five-year plan in 2014.

Shares of the automaker’s stock rose $1.11, or 10.5%, to close at $11.65 for the day, its highest trading price over the past year.

Fiat Chrysler’s  global revenue increased 4% to $30.2 billion (27.7 billion euro) during the first quarter compared with $28.9 billion (26.6 billion euro) for the same period last year.

The automaker’s profits work out to 47 cents per share (43 cents euro), slightly ahead of analysts, who, on average, expected the company to earn 46 cents, per share (42 cents euro), according to MarketWatch. (This information was compiled from freep.com and the FCA news conference.)

What is Guaranteed Financing?

Guaranteed Financing at All Star Dodge near Ballwin

What do you do when you need to buy a car, but have less than great credit? Do you settle or do you find a way to get a great car and improve your credit score at the same time? We think that you should take advantage of the guaranteed financing program offered by All Star Dodge near Ballwin. Let’s take a look at what guaranteed financing is and how it works.

What is it? – It is typically a free service and is currently available primarily to borrowers with poor or bad credit. Companies offering guaranteed car finance allow buyers to request the amount of credit needed to purchase a new car. The terms of the agreement with guaranteed car finance lenders are not limited to purchasing the vehicle from the lender or dealer. A new buyer is permitted to shop elsewhere and bring in their outside loan agreement for financing.

How does it work? – “The loan agreement is a contract for hire arrangement where the finance company takes ownership of the vehicle during the loan period. The company charges a monthly rental fee to the borrower in exchange for use of the car. The monthly rental fee is comprised of the loan amount plus an interest and financing charge.”-carsdirect.com

As the loan balance is paid down, it is the responsibility of the borrower to maintain the vehicle in accordance with the terms of the contract for hire. This arrangement works for both the borrower and the lender. The finance company receives a tax deduction in consideration of the value-added tax levied on the vehicle’s value, while the borrower does not increase his or her net asset value since ownership resides with the finance company.

Ram 3500: Super Truck

Ram 3500 at All Star Dodge Ram near Mehlville

If you are one of the many hard working people in the St. Louis area, you might need a truck that can keep up with your hard work. If this sounds like you, then you need to get the super Ram 3500 at All Star Dodge Ram near Mehlville.

The Ram 3500 is the sort of truck that gives even a temporary owner a powerful urge to stop off at Tractor Supply Co. for a Carhartt jacket, steel-toed work boots, and rawhide gloves. And maybe 20 rolls of barbed wire, a couple dozen bags of cement, and one of every welder they sell. That’s what this big Ram is all about: work. You can outfit the interior with lots of fancy options— really somewhere around $18,045 in extras, but most of that can go to work-related enhancements. (This amount may not be totally accurate, talk to a member of the All Star team for a more exact figure.) Still, upscale features like leather, navigation, heated seats, premium audio, and Uconnect telematics spread only a thin veneer of civilization over a primordial brute with a work ethic that makes your average Calvinist look like a slacker.

“To put the Ram 3500 into perspective, here are some noteworthy numbers: 385 horsepower, 900 lb-ft of torque, up to 7390 pounds of payload capacity, 31,210 pounds of maximum towing capacity. The turbo-diesel V-8s in the Ford and GM behemoths huff up more horsepower than does the Ram’s 6.7-liter straight-six, but the Cummins engineers keep mining more torque, with an increase of 35 lb-ft over the 2015 version.”-caranddriver.com

Don’t just take our word for it, head to All Star today and check out the Ram 3500. Take a test drive and feel the power that this Ram has to offer!

What is Certified Pre Owned?

Certified Pre-Owned Cars at All Star Dodge Ram near Fenton

You find yourself needing a different vehicle and you have a choice to make. Will you buy new, used, or certified pre owned? If you want the best of both worlds, a CPO model might be the best choice. Let us share why a certified pre owned car from All Star Dodge Ram near Fenton might be the right choice for you.

“Certified pre-owned,” or CPO, is a term coined by the automotive industry to describe late-model, low-mileage used cars that have passed some sort of inspection and are backed by a factory warranty or service contract. Certified pre-owned cars are generally in better shape than the average used car and have a history of regular maintenance and accident-free operation that can be verified independently through a vehicle-tracking service such as Carfax.

Most of the autos with the certified pre-owned label are cars that were leased new instead of sold, and thus have been cared for by customers trying to avoid extra charges for wear and tear at the conclusion of their leases. “Certified pre-owned programs started as a way for automakers to sell low-mileage off-lease cars during the leasing boom of the 1990s. Since then, sales of certified pre-owned autos have sky-rocketed, thanks to the perceived combination of new-car dependability and used-car price.”-bankrate.com

But the most important definition of certified pre-owned for consumers is the one written by the manufacturers themselves. Most certified pre-owned programs offer some combination of a warranty, an inspection and the option to return the car if it doesn’t live up to expectations. This warranty can be a huge benefit overall.

We know that a CPO is the best way to get a great deal on a car, truck, or SUV at All Star.

Is the Jeep Renegade Right for You?

Jeep Renegade at All Star Jeep Dealer near Arnold

We all know that there are a lot of great Jeep models within the line up. So many great models that you might need a little help deciding which model will be right for you. We want to help you make your decision a little bit easier by sharing some basic information on the Jeep Renegade that you can find at All Star Jeep Dealer near Arnold.

The Renegade isn’t just a cute ute with a Jeep badge; it can also “Go anywhere and do anything” like its larger siblings. No other SUV in the class can match the Renegade’s off-road capabilities. In fact, few vehicles in any class can, and most of them wear a Jeep badge. This little Jeep isn’t just an off-road warrior though. It shows its manners on paved roads, with confident handling, a composed ride, and an adequate engine. It also gives you plenty of day-to-day utility, with excellent passenger room and a decent-sized cargo hold. On the downside, fuel economy is low for the class, and there are very few standard features.

The 2017 Jeep Renegade starts at $17,995, which is the lowest base price in the class. It is also the cheapest Jeep model. Most Renegade models come with front-wheel drive, but you can upgrade to four-wheel drive for $2,000. A 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual transmission are standard, but you can opt for a more powerful four-cylinder engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission for between $1,330 and $1,530, depending on the trim. The Perfect Pacifica

Chrysler Pacifica at All Star Chrysler near North County

It would seem as though the days of the minivan were gone, being replaced by crossovers and fancy SUVs. However, Chrysler did not want us to say goodbye to the minivan as they were the originators of this remarkable vehicle. For this reason, Chrysler spent a lot of time and effort in developing what we think is the ultimate minivan. This new minivan is known as the Chrysler Pacifica and we think that you are really going to love it!

Although the Pacifica existed in another life as a discontinued crossover, the new luxury minivan replaced the brand’s Town & Country and made a stunning debut in 2016 as the new challenger to the minivan market that has been dominated by the Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna. Fans loved it and so did the critics — all for good reason. It is also only only hybrid minivan currently on the market. (thecrier.net)

The Pacifica crams so much great stuff into the vehicle that is boggles the mind. It offers automatic opening doors and rear seat entertainment, with each of the two seats getting its own television screen, hidden storage bins, second row seats that not only fold flat into the floor (called Stow ’n Go) but can be pushed to provide easy access to the third row. Kids going into the third row don’t have to climb over second-row friends, which hardly is an easy exercise. As a bonus, the underfloor compartments can be used as more than simply storage. You can buy liners and fill them with ice and used as coolers. Perfect for the lake, long trips and tailgating.

New Wrangler Unlimited Coming Soon

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited at All Star Jeep Dealer near Clayton

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited at All Star Jeep Dealer near Clayton will be getting a new trim soon that will change the way that you look at the Wrangler Unlimited. We want to share with you some of the features that the new Wrangler Unlimited will have.

At this point, official information about the next-generation Wrangler Unlimited— known as the JL, internally — is few and far between. We have a decent idea of what to expect based on leaks, spy shots, and revelations made by insiders, but Jeep is keeping its lips sealed until its long-awaited off-roader breaks cover this fall at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The JL-series model will continue to feature a tall grille with seven vertical slots, round headlights, flared fenders, and a rear-mounted spare tire. Its overall silhouette won’t change much, either. Perhaps the most notable modification up front is that the turn signals will move from the grille to the fenders. In profile, expect the JL to adopt a more rakish windshield, a small concession made in the name of aerodynamics. The back end will receive only minor tweaks, such as new-look lights inspired by the ones found on the Renegade. “The hood and the doors will be made out of aluminum to minimize overall weight, according to a supplier memo leaked to the press last fall. Surprisingly, the Wrangler’s removable top might be replaced by a series of individual panels that can be stored on-board, allowing owners to go topless on a whim,” (digitaltrends.com).

2018 Jeep Wrangler Spotted!

Jeep Wrangler at All Star Jeep Dealer near Town and Country

We love when there are leaks of what the latest Jeep models will look like when they are released. It’s like getting to watch a long trailer for the hottest movie that will be coming out. We recently got a look at what the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will look like once it is available at All Star Jeep Dealer near Town and Country.

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler isn’t scheduled to be officially revealed for a few more months, but leaked images may have uncovered its new design. The overall look hasn’t changed much, but there’s a longer hood, a more prominent front bumper, vents behind the front fenders, and a character line running under what appear to be taller windows.

“A kinked grille has outer slats that curve around the headlights, while the turn signals move to the fenders. The Wrangler’s signature hood latches and exposed door hinges remain, as does its fold-down windshield, despite rumors that the feature wouldn’t make the cut.”-foxnews.com

If authentic, the images also confirm that the next-generation Wrangler will have a fully removable roof and doors, with framework replacing the sport bar used on the current model. Overall, the look is in line with a lot of rumors that have been floating around about the 2018 Wrangler. We loved the look of the leaked Jeep Wrangler and can only hope that the model released to dealerships will look very similar to the mules we saw on the road. (A mule is a prototype of a car.)

For more information on the current Jeep Wrangler or if you would like to take a test drive, stop by All Star Jeep Dealer today. Their team would love to take you out to experience its capability!
