On June 26th, Chrysler Group LLC reported on how they are leading the way by providing more power, higher efficiency, and greater value in the area of powertrain leadership for the 2015 model year. According to Bob Lee, Vice President and Head of Engine, Powertrain and Electrified Propulsion Systems, “From the dyno lab to the test track, we have been relentless. Our engineers don’t just strive for excellence; they seek to redefine it by continually raising the bar.”
Back in 2009, Chrysler Group began it’s advanced powertrain development and has to-date invested almost $2.5 billion in that area. This accounts for nearly half of their total manufacturing outlay. Thanks to that investment, from model-year 2011 to the present, the company has been able to introduce 15 new transmission and 18 new engines. The money was also used to create the battery-electric drive system featured in Fiat’s acclaimed 500e all-electric vehicle.
For the 2015 model year, Chrysler is introducing a whole new lineup of powertrain advancements. A few examples of what you will see include:
- The all-new supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 HEMI® Hellcat that offers a 600-plus horsepower rating.
- The all-new TorqueFlite eight-speed HP90 automatic transmission.
- An all-new three variant axle family.
- All-new Engine Stop-Start technology applications that will account for fuel-economy gains and 02 emission reductions of up to three percent.
