The 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 was redesigned with a stiffer frame which has improved its stability and handling while at the same time lowering the noise inside the cabin and vibration as much as 30 percent,
Along with the new frame design, Dodge has also improved the powertrain, body mounting technology, and air suspension in the 2013 Ram truck.
“Portions of the frame are hydro-formed for dimensional accuracy (hydroforming reduces the amount of welding that leads to distortion), and side rails are fully boxed,” says AllPar.com. “The front frame section has high-strength steel that maintains strength and durability while saving around 30 pounds, larger body mounts are on the front frame rails and at the C-pilla,” AllPar.com explains.
A Chrysler exclusive multi-link coil spring rear suspension was introduced in the Dodge Ram In 2009; the Ram 1500 has an exclusive standard multi-link, coil-spring rear suspension.
According to reviewers; “it improves ride and handling with no loss of capability.” The coil design spring helps to absorb the shock and impact at the same time it reduces the amount of friction on the spring system. The new design weighs 40 lbs. less than the leaf spring system.
Electric power steering in the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 uses an electric motor replacing the old hydraulic pump which improves fuel efficiency by 1.8 percent and adds 5 HP.
Low riding tires lower the level of energy wasted and new brakes have a relocated ABS pump to lower vibration. Emergency stops offer improved performance with the new hydraulic boost which also enhances the overall feel of the brake pedal.
New standard features in the Dodge Ram include; power folding mirrors, a power rear-sliding window with defrost, and a six-foot-four-inch bed option on the Crew Cab. RamBox cargo management system and tailgate power locks. Optional features include; auto rain-sensing wipers and SmartBeam.
