2013 Dodge Ram Concept Vehicle

The grille has been upgraded and redesigned, according to Automotive News now has; “angled corners at the top and bottom. The grille’s texture has also been completely reworked, with a bevy of horizontal slats replacing the honeycomb mesh around the familiar crosshair grille bars.”

The front bumper has also been re-vamped to include new air intakes and possibly new fog lamps in the wide set recessed spots located in the front end.

According to Automotive News; “The headlights on this prototype are identical to the current Ram, but we think there may very well be redesigned headlights in the cards for the facelifted model. The headlights in use here do not fit the new body work, especially where the lights should meet the top of the front bumper. The bottom of the headlights is perfectly horizontal, while the bumper is angled downward toward the center, leaving an ill-fitting gap that suggests that new, reshaped lights will also be part of the new Ram’s look.”

Automotive News also stated; “When the truck photographed here removed his camouflage for one final, hot-weather run up the mountain, the two other Ram prototypes on the scene kept their camo in place. A closer look at the headlights behind that camouflage seems to suggest that they have different internals and lighting elements from the headlights on the uncovered truck. That may be why those two trucks still kept their disguise in place.”

Dodge Ram Goes To Wal-Mart

Ram’s new marketing campaign is targeted at reaching consumers shopping for products for their outdoor lifestyle.

“We recognize the alignment between truck buyers, the hunting and fishing lifestyle, and Wal-Mart,” Marissa Hunter, head of advertising for the Ram truck brand, said Thursday during a Web chat with journalists. “We are working on a promotion that brings all three together.” Hunter commented after Ram developed its new commercials titled;”Guts. Glory. Ram.”

Two new commercials will air in September featuring Dodge Ram driving through rugged terrain, the first commercial is in the desert and the second commercial depicts a Ram truck  climbing up a steep rocky hill.

“The idea was to create a campaign that would separate Ram from the competitors,” Hunter said. “The Western theme reflects a time when a handshake meant you gave your word, and working hard was respected and rewarded.”

This new marketing campaign was created in order to redefine Ram’s new identity and separate it from the old Dodge Ram.  “The spin-off has allowed us to focus all of our creative advertising and social media efforts specifically toward truck buyers while giving the Dodge brand their own space and place to focus on their brand, too,” said Ram CEO Fred Diaz.

Ram pickup sales have increased 25.9% through July beating Ford Motor’s sales increase record of only 7.7% and Chevy Silverado sales rise of only 7.2%.

Jeep Refines the Wrangler

Jeep Dealer Near EllisvilleAll Star Jeep Dealer located near Ellisville is pleased to announce that Chrysler has refined the 2012 Jeep 4 door Wrangler by adding an automatic transmission and an updated 3.8 L  Pentastar V6 which is has more power- traveling from zero to sixty in just 8.4 seconds, (compared to 11.4 seconds for the current year model).  The The TE3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 delivers 285 hp which is a 41%  increase from the 202 hp of the V-6 in the 2011 model.  The 2011 Jeep Wrangler got an all new updated interior.

The new Jeep Wrangler limited was introduced 5 years ago, and then Chrysler discovered that off road drivers have a desire for more creature comforts and luxury features.

The unlimited trim outsell its two-door contender by a 3-2 ratio, some feel that the unlimited has catapulted the Wrangler brand to a whole new category of younger more affluent car buyers.  According to Automotive news; “The average age of Wrangler Unlimited customers is 44, and the average household income is $110,000. That compares with an average of 50 years old and $95,000 for the Wrangler two-door.”

“It starts to become a day-to-day vehicle,” said Ryan Nagode, lead interior designer for the Wrangler, speaking at the media launch here. “They’re not buying it just for trails.”

In order to attract upscale buyers; Jeep has added many new features to the Wrangler such as fender flares, a removable hard top, and matching color roofs.

According to Chris Ellis manager of Jeep brand marketing; “It makes the car look a lot more premium.”

Many new Jeep Dealers believe that Wrangler sales will increase with the refreshed 2012 model.  The price of the base Sport two-door remains the same at $22,845. The sticker price for the top-of-the-line 2012 Unlimited Rubicon will cost an additional $250 to $34,370.

The Wrangler is the first Pentastar equipped vehicle to get a manual transmission; eventually Chrysler will replace all of its V6 engines with the Pentastar V6 with a new automatic 5 speed transmission to replace the current 4 speed.

The 2012 model arrives in showrooms this month.

 

 

Chrysler Gets Improved Rating from Consumer Report

One example is the V6 or V8 Dodge Durango SUV which received “very good” road test scores proving that Chrysler group is making improvements to the performance and handling of Dodge and Jeep models.

Consumer Report said that 8 2011 Chrysler Group models received higher scores for categories such as; interior finish, handling and performance. The Ram truck was recommended by the magazine, but the truck’s score is unchanged from last year’s rating.

Dodge Durango and Charger received all new upgrades this year and both improved the most in 2011 according to the magazine.

Dodge Durango SUV is available with a V6 or a V8 engine; the vehicle received “very good” road test scores which were rated in the same range as Ford’s Explorer.  The revamped Town & Country minivan earned a rating of “very good,” a considerably higher score than 2010.

Doug Betts senior VP of quality at Chrysler said that all in all Chrysler had 16 “significantly improved or redesigned products” in the last year and a half. “This amount of work in a compressed time frame is unprecedented in Chrysler’s history, and probably in the industry,” he said.”Consumer Reports, and many other auto reviewers, are noting the difference.”

The redesigned Chrysler 200, Dodge Avenger, Jeep Compass and the Patriot did NOT receive such improved ratings as other Chrysler vehicles

“Despite some improvements, they’re still mediocre vehicles overall, scoring at or near the bottom of their respective categories,” the magazine said in a statement.

Generally, Consumer Report gave Chrysler points for interior room and features, controls and acceleration, and low marks for reliability, fuel economy, ride, braking, fit and finish and agility.

 

 

 

First U.S. Made SUV Will Be Assembled at Chrysler Plant

The concept version of the new model is based on the popular Jeep Grand Cherokee and will be launched in Frankfurt at the IAA.

The new U.S. built Maserati SUV was produced as a result of the partnership between Fiat and Chrysler.  Marchionne runs both companies and plans to expand the Maserati and Alfa Romeo.

But some, such as Geoff Landcaster-61 year old owner of a 4200 Spyder, feel that a Jeep based Maserati may not be successful.  “The crucial thing is going to be how well they differentiate it from its Grand Cherokee roots,” said Lancaster, who works in London and has driven Maserati cars for the past seven years. “Maserati will have to wave their magic wand over it quite aggressively to make it competitive.”

But Fiat says the company will in fact replicate the success of Porsche SE’s Cayenne, selling for $84,440.  “The important point is that whatever Maserati we launch will be a product that respects the entire heritage, image, characteristics, and customer expectations of this brand,” Harald Wester, Maserati’s CEO, said in a March interview. “What ends up in the dealer shops should be 100 percent Maserati.”

The Italian automaker is taking a risk in order to gain a portion of the high profit market share for luxury SUVs.  Demand for higher end luxury SUV’s is expected to grow by as much as 24% by the year 2015 according to Ian Fletcher, an IHS Automotive analyst in London. “It should be a real Maserati and not just another SUV,” said Fletcher. “A Maserati SUV goes in the right direction. It just needs to sit within the rest of the range.”

 

 

 

Chrysler Discounts Price on Dodge Journey

Dodge models will go on sale in the 3rd quarter of 2011 and the Chrysler 200’s discounted price will be available starting in the month of September.

The new base price of the Dodge Avenger and the Chrysler 200 put both vehicles in a lower price range than the competition, including the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu (starting at  $22,755); the 2012 Ford Fusion, (which starts at $20,645); and the 2011 Toyota Camry, (with a base price of $20,955).

A leader in its class for price-the Dodge Journey actually has a lower sticker price than its competition including the Chevy Traverse for $30,240, as well as the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse and the Toyota Highlander starting at $28,900 (including delivery).

Sales of the Chrysler 200 which is the vehicle that replaced the Sebring has totaled over 38,000 in the first 6  months of 2011 and Dodge Avenger sales have risen by 6 percent to 34,099 units.   Sales of the Dodge Journey have also risen by 3% this year to 31,285 units sold.

 

Chrylser Teams up With Chase to offer Better Loan Terms

According to Kisiel, Chrysler currently leases new vehicles through U.S. Bank and the subprime auto loans are issued through a company called Consumer USA.

Chase was quoted as stating that the company plans to provide commercial and retail financing for all Chrysler brand products.

Chrysler has recently announced several new buying incentives for financing new Jeep, Dodge, or any other Chrysler brand automobile.  The new offer available through the 6th of September will allow consumers to defer payment for 90 days on any 2011 or 2012 Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, or Jeep.  Several other new promotions were announced by Chrysler for qualified buyers including zero financing for 36 months on 2011 model Chrysler 300s, 300Cs, and Chargers-the vehicle voted most improved by J.D. Powers and Associates.

J.D. Power’s APEAL study is a survey that rates vehicles according to how well new owners (the first 90 days of ownership), like or dislike their new automobiles.  Topics that are of particular focus in the study include; performance, vehicles design, layout, and content.

Vehicles with high scores in the APEALS Study tend to realize higher sales rates and profit margins-selling well without the need for incentives  .According to J.D. History of Dodge Ram

Dodge Ram in IllinoisAll Star Dodge dealer in Illinois, feels now that Dodge has decided to change the name of its best selling full sized truck; the Dodge Ram, to the simple name “Ram,” it’s a great time to review the run-down of the history of this infamous truck.

Surprisingly; the legacy of the Dodge truck didn’t start with an idea from the Dodge Brother, or even from Chrysler itself.  The dodge Brothers never even manufactured a truck during their entire life span.

The first Dodge truck began with 3 brothers by the name of Graham; first names were Ray, Robert, and Joseph.   The brothers were born in the late 1800’s and they began their career with a glass factory in Evansville Indiana in 1907.

Then in 1916 the Graham brothers decided to start in the truck body business and by the year 1919 they produced the “Truck-Builder,” (consisting of a frame, body, and a cab, as well as a Torbensen internal gear drive),   which was a general platform which allowed consumers to spec their trucks according to their own needs.  Many such consumers utilized engines, transmissions and other components from passenger cars.

As time progressed the graham brothers produced their own truck complete from bumper to bumper.

The president of Dodge Brothers took notice and made an offer to form a partnership with the Graham brothers in 1921, in order to expand services to include a line of HD trucks. Thus, in 1921, Graham Brothers started selling 1.5 ton pickups through Dodge dealers, using Graham bodies and Dodge parts. IN 1920 a new one ton model was launched but it continued to be powered by the original 4 cylinder engine, shortly after the Dodge Brothers purchased controlling interest in the company.  Ray Graham became the new VP of manufacturing and Robert Graham took on the position of sales manager for the company.

Chrysler Corporation purchased Dodge Brothers and at the same time inherited Graham Brothers truck division and on January 1st 1929 all Graham Brothers trucks became named Dodge trucks.  At that time Chrysler was making Dodge, DeSoto, and Plymouth, Chrysler, and Imperial-as well as Fargo in Canada.
