More Jeep Stores in Europe

Manley stated that Jeep’s goal is to increase sales from 25,000 units to 125,000 units this year.

“Our plans for Europe are ambitious but doable,” Manley told Automotive News Europe. “Europe for Jeep is an incredibly important market. We had been here for 30 years, and half of our international sales historically were in Europe.”

Jeep plans to launch its first small SUV which is a Fiat based vehicle that resembles the rambler, and two other fuel efficient SUV’s in European countries that have emission based vehicle taxes.

The new Liberty will replace the Jeep Cherokee medium size and it will go into production in the United States in 2013.  The SUV will deliver 170 hp with a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder gas engine. The Grand Cherokee large SUV will remain in the lineup with a 241-hp, 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine/

According to Manley;  “One SUV to replace the Jeep Compass and Patriot. It will debut in Europe in mid-2013 and will be built for global markets, including North America, at Fiat’s Mirafiori plant in Turin. The vehicle will share many components and systems with the Alfa Romeo C-SUV that will be built in Mirafiori by the end of 2012. The C-SUV will be offered with all-wheel and front-wheel drive.”

A new fuel saving stop/start system will be added to the European Jeep Wrangler for the first time ever.  The new 200 hp, 2.8 liter, 4 cylinder diesel engine delivers 13% better fuel economy.

Jeep plans to have 650 additional dealers in Europe by the year 2014, while planning to capitalize on the growing European auto market-sales are projected to increase from 800,000 to 1.2 million in 2014.

Ram Goes to the Races

This is just part of Ram’s racing history which started in the 70’s when Dodge Ram was driven by Walker Evans as the first pickup to win the  Baja 1000, in 1979.  In more recent years, Ram and Kent Kroeker have won some grueling desert races.

The UAW Attempts to Keep Chrysler Competitive

new Dodge Dealer near EllisvilleAll Star new Dodge Dealer near Ellisville is pleased to announce that the United Auto Workers and Chrysler Group have started negotiations for new auto workers’ contracts and both parties have agreed to make an attempt to keep Chrysler competitive on labor costs.  The UAW is negotiating new 4 year contracts with Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors because current contracts are due to expire on September 14th 2011.

UAW president, Bob King said he wants to see a raise in compensation without putting Chrysler at a disadvantage with competitors- GM or Ford.

King feels that new concessions are in order due to increased profitability of the Detroit 3.  “Everybody in here, if you asked them if they wanted a raise, they’d say ‘heck yeah,'” King said. “But can you do it and keep the company viable and successful?”

King said today there will be no “target” company for negotiations to set a pattern for the other two. They will all negotiate simultaneously.”  He stated that if all parties involved do their jobs, there won’t be any reason to take disputes to arbitration.  Under concession the UAW accepted in 2009, arbitrators have the final word in labor disputes and GM and Chrysler agreed not to go on strike.  Ford Motor Company is the only Detroit automaker who has the option to strike in the future because the company did not take a government bailout and was therefore exempt from all of the stipulations that followed.

King said that the UAW would attempt to keep all prior agreements that same for all automakers so that one company does not have advantages over the others.

Garberding said that Chrysler was obligated to keep labor costs realistic in order to be respectful of its loyal employees and to the Government for providing the bailout.

According to an unidentified source, Chrysler has no intention of raising its labor costs.”We dramatically raise our fixed costs and we’re shooting ourselves in the foot,” the source said last week.

The average hourly labor costs will remain at $51 per worker-including salaries and benefits.  That’s the same figure that the transplant automakers pay currently and Chrysler is not in a position to be able to raise fixed labor costs above the level that the transplants pay, according to the source.

How Much is the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Chrysler Posts $370 Million Net Loss

After its first post bankruptcy profit was recorded last quarter, Chrysler has posted a net loss of $370 million in the 2n quarter of 2011 as a result of costs related to repayment of government bailout money.

Chrysler was charged $551 million in loans to the U.S. Treasury Department and Canada for bailout money in 2009.

“Modified” operating profit nearly tripled from a year earlier to $507 million, while revenue climbed 30 percent to $13.7 billion, the company said Tuesday.

The good news is that Chrysler’s sales rose 19% worldwide in the 2nd quarter to 486,000 units sold.  Chrysler reports this is a result of new products launched as well as a huge advertising push.

“There is no doubt that Chrysler Group has taken a huge step forward this quarter,” CEO Sergio Marchionne said in a statement. “Refinancing our debt and repaying our government loans six years early reinforces our conviction that we are on the right path to rebuilding this company and restoring it to its rightful place on the global automotive landscape.”

Chrysler posted a net profit of $116 million in the first quarter this year, in the 2nd quarter milestones include;

Repayment of $5.9 billion to the U.S. government and $1.7 billion to Canada, six years ahead of the original schedule

Refinancing its debt with a $3.0 billion senior secured loan, $3.2 billion in secured notes and a $1.3 billion revolving line of credit

Worldwide sales increased 19% to 514,000 units, the first time that figure had topped 500,000 units in a quarter since Chrysler exited bankruptcy in June 2009.

As part of the refinancing, Fiat exercised an option to increase its stake in Chrysler from 36% to 40%.
