Your Missouri Dodge Dealer, All Star Dodge is pleased to announce that the new Viper will be based on the Maserati GranTurismo. One idea put forth by 2 Allpar analyst is base the next generation Gran Turismo on the Viper as the Quattroporte is borrowing from the L-cars which would be a joint venture with Mesarati, Chrysler, and Mclaren all working toward the design of the next generation Viper and GranTruismo.
According to design engineer Dan Minick; “the Maserati M139 platform (Quattroporte/GranTurismo) is dimensionally similar to the LX — particularly the base of the windshield versus the front wheels (a telltale sign, the cowl/firewall position related to the front suspension). There were rumblings back then of Daimler talking to Fiat about developing a platform for Maserati. I think there’s something here nobody will ’fess up to. There has been talk of Viper moving to a short M139 platform, which may be correct, but it might just be a full circle — LX > M139 > ZD.”
The next generation Viper may be based on a wide range of influences including the Mercedes E Class which was pegged for the LX (with the LX that was originally developed by Chrysler, and the LH), the LX and Maserati’s interpretation of the LX platform. If the LX platform is use, it is likely that there will not be any public acknowledgement.
No matter which direction the design engineers decide to go, there is no doubt that the new Dodge Viper and GranTurismo will have an entirely new look and feel with many upgrades including new powertrains and tuning.
