President Obama to Visit Chrysler Plants

All Star Dodge Dealer near St. Louis is committed to keeping its loyal blog readers updated on the latest in Chrysler automotive news.  It was recently announced that President Obama plans to travel to Toledo to visit one of the Chrysler plants.  The press is busy trying to get more information to find out just what the president will have to say when he appears for his speaking engagement at Chrysler the first week in June.

Toledo has 3 Chrysler plants, the Toledo North Assembly Plant that builds Jeep Liberties and Dodge Nitro models, the Jeep Wrangler plant, and the Machining plant.  It has been reported that the trip will involve the president speaking about the importance of the American auto industry’s survival.

The Obama administration has not yet announced details of the upcoming visit but some people speculate that Chrysler will be adding new production lines to the only Chrysler plant in the U.S. that operates with just one shift.

Chrysler will provide an opportunity for the president to prove his point about the success of the auto bailout. Investment advisor Alan Lancz says. “The people who were skeptical have a little bit of crow to eat. The auto industry is paying back the loans and turning things around. They are making progress, especially on the international front. The right things are happening and he’s got to toot his own horn when he can.”

According to Senator Sherrod Brown; “I think the president will talk about how the future is looking better. In Ohio, we’ve seen job growth for the last 14 months including the manufacturing sector, particularly auto manufacturing will pull us out of a recession.”

It has been projected that this won’t be the first visit to Ohio from the President as Ohio is a key state in the upcoming presidential election.   The details regarding where and when the President will arrive are presently being worked out.

The new Jeep Laredo offers keyless entry, stability control, hill start assist, trailer sway control, side curtain airbags, active head restraints, power driver’s seat, fog lamps, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, satellite radio, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.  Laredo’s engine delivers 360 hp with a V8 Hemi option available. If you select the 4×4 Limited trim, you will also get Quadra-Trac II with Selec-Terrain, front and second-row heated leather seats, memory settings, high intensity headlamps, sun roof, rear back-up camera, rear park assist, premium audio, automatic temperature control, 18-inch aluminum wheels, Garmin navigation system, and rain-sensitive wipers. The New Grand Cherokee Options and Prices

Chrysler’s Jeep Grand Cherokee, available at All Star Dodge in Illinois, was a major launch for the company, and the first after the departure of Cerberus and Daimler.  The new Cherokee has received numerous awards and according to many journalists has put Chrysler back on the map.

The Cherokee delivers 290 hp with its standard Pentastar V6 engine.  The Hemi engine is optional, and there is a V6 diesel engine offered in Europe.

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has a new, upscale interior and an advanced 4WD system.  The Pentastar V6 engine delivers 290-horsepower with its, five-speed automatic, numerous standard features, and towing capability.   Starting price in the U.S. is $32,995.

Without the 4WD option the price drops $2,000 on the Lardeo, $2,500 on the Limited, and $3,500 on the Overland. Add a V8, and tow capacity increases from 5,000 to 7,400 lb.

Unfortunately, dealer invoices are close to the list prices, so there’s not much negotiating room. A base model Grand Cherokee Laredo is listed at $32,995 with no options; the dealer cost is $31,402, with a $966 dealer holdback. The 4×4 is listed at $32,995.  The Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4×4 is listed at $39,600; the dealer invoice price is $37,402. If you select the Hemi V8 engine the price goes up by $1,495; aluminum painted wheels will cost you $1,095, the hard drive/navigation system stereo adds $750; and the trailer towing package is an additional $695.

Don’t expect to get prices at invoice because Dealers tend to have high fixed costs, including loans to buy vehicles for the lot, insurance, real estate taxes, commissions, and salaries, so despite holdback, most Jeep dealers are unable to sell at invoice prices.

Jeep in The News

All Star Dodge, your local Missouri Jeep Dealer in Bridgeton is committed to keeping its loyal blog readers and customers updated on recent Chrysler news.

Jeep CEO Mike Manley commented in a recent press release that Jeep has set a new goal to increase sales in Europe by launching new small SUVs.  Jeep’s goal is to sell as many as 125,000 units by the year 2014, as compared to this year’s  goal to sell 25,000 units.

“Our plans for Europe are ambitious but doable,” Manley told Automotive News Europe. “Europe for Jeep is an incredibly important market. We had been here for 30 years, and half of our international sales historically were in Europe.”

New SUV replacements for the European market will include a smaller version of the Wrangler, and a smaller replacement for the Jeep Cherokee. The European version of Jeep’s Wrangler includes a fuel saving “stop-start system,” featured for the first time in a Jeep.

According to Automotive News.com, “ a replacement for the Cherokee medium SUV, called the Liberty in the United States, that will go into production in the United States in early 2013 and will be exported to Europe by spring 2013. The SUV will use a 170-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. The Grand Cherokee large SUV stays in the lineup with a 241-hp, 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine built by VM Motori of Italy.”

Jeep plans to implement over 400 dealers throughout Europe by June 1st, and 650 dealerships by 2014.  The plan is for Jeep to reap the benefits of the increase in SUV sales in Europe.

Variation on the Dodge Ram Heading Our Way

There’s a new breed of pickup rumbling around these days called a “lifestyle” pickups, which are a cross between an SUV and a pickup truck and look pretty cool. Word from up north is that Chrysler is getting into the lifestyle pickup business with a new TR Ram Life Style Truck. The first roll out of this new truck will take place in Windsor, Ontario at the same auto assembly plant that builds the Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans.

With this announcement, Chrysler made the rumors of this new version of the Dodge Ram official. The Detroit based auto maker even went as far as notifying its major parts suppliers to start gearing up. Even though production on the TR Ram is not expected to get under way until 2013 there is a lot of prep work involved.

The first inclination that this might be happening came in late 2009. During Fiat’s takeover of the Chrysler, Dodge and Ram truck brands it put out a kind of mission statement declaring its intention to develop a “lifestyle truck” for 2013. This new Dodge Ram truck will probably be based on a unibody platform. The best bet is that it will utilize the front-wheel-drive Chrysler minivan chassis as opposed to a more classic body-on-frame chassis like you find on the full-size Ram models.

Way back in 2000, Dodge actually teased this idea of a lifestyle truck when it showed off the Dodge MAXXcab concept. That was a four door sport utility pickup that was referred to as a “Passenger Priority Truck.”

“This is going to be a great-looking sports truck,” Ram trucks CEO Fred Diaz said. “A buyer will be able to drive off in a new Hemi-powered Ram truck with money left over for other things, like Mopar accessories. There’s nothing in the market – and that includes other trucks, as well as cars – that can compete with this truck’s blend of style, exhilarating performance and value.”

Beef Up Your Dodge Ram In A Big Way

All Star Dodge near Wood River knows that the Dodge Ram is already a big truck. But for some, big just isn’t big enough not when it can be Super-sized. That’s what’s going on with the Dodge Ram “Long-Hauler” Concept truck. The motivation behind this  is for anybody who feels the need to tow really heavy trailers for a long haul.  It’s also designed for small business owners who need a mini monster truck for their worksite. This isn’t a Ram that is in production. Instead it’s a kind of “sample” truck that will be on display throughout the summer at truck shows, rodeos and country fairs. If there is enough positive response, Chrysler might just throw the Long Hauler up on the assembly line for a production run.

To begin with, the Ram engineers took a 5500 double-cab and stretched out its wheelbase by 16 feet. They also pumped up the load box with a built-in fifth wheel that’s going to come in handy for those heavy-duty hauling trips. There’s  a mid-mounted fuel tank that bumps up the total fuel capacity to a whopping 640 liters. The maximum gross vehicle weight is 17 tons. You read that right! For power, the Long Hauler used an inline, six-cylinder, 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel engine rated and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Inside the cab, you’ll find 115V and 12V outlets in the front and rear. There is also a permanent Wi-Fi which lets your passengers log onto the net while in transit. They can also watch movies on a DVD player with overhead screen. There’s a laptop storage area, an inductive charger,  tire pressure monitoring system, rear axle temperature gauge and exhaust gas temperature and boost gauges. This is one truck you’ve just got to check out for yourself.
