The infamous boxed look, high ground clearance, and classic Wrangler angles are all still in place. However, a larger rear window has been worked in and there is a new body-colored hardtop that is available with the 2011 Sahara.

On the inside of a new Wrangler, certain changes are apparent. The instrument panel has been redesigned and more storage areas are now available. Steering wheel mounted audio controls are now offered and USB ports have been put in place for iPods and MP3 players. In summary, the 2011 Jeep Wrangler retains its off-road performance capability and comes with more features to make driving it more enjoyable than ever.

Natural Gas Powered Cars from Chrysler in about 5 Years

According to a recent Bloomberg Businessweek article written by Tim Higgins, Chrysler has plans to begin selling vehicles powered by natural gas in the United States as early as 2017. Bob Lee, Chrysler’s Vice President for engine and electric propulsion systems confirmed this at an interview held in Detroit on April 12th by saying, “the technology is very actively being worked on.” At a 2011 automotive engineering gathering Lee previously stated that “it’s a good way for some diversity in the market in terms of fuel use.”

End users can only hope that fuel prices remain low enough to support normal driving activities in the mean time. Once hybrid, electric, and natural gas propelled cars and trucks begin regularly being purchased, the demand for oil may shrink to a level that will lead to stable prices. At least then, American car buyers will have the opportunity to select from a variety of different powering options.

Chrysler is currently exploring the possibility of using compressed natural gas (CNG)- powered engines for the Dodge Ram as well, this from Fred Diaz, who heads up the company’s truck unit. One of the best aspects of CNG vehicles is that they are cheaper to make then electric cars are with their expensive lithium-ion batteries. For auto manufactures, they represent an alternative if the electric vehicle market collapses some time down the road.

The newly introduced Natural Gas Bill is gaining momentum in Congress. If passed it would provide government offered credits to promote the production and sales of natural-gas vehicles, much like is the case with hybrid and electric vehicles presently. Some may have the opinion that money being spent on research and development of CNG vehicles is being wastes, since it could go to extending the capable range between charges of electric cars. Others are happy to entertain the potential for another layer of diversification in the market.

All Star Dodge located near Florissant in Missouri will sponsor further updates on this topic as new information surfaces.

Fiat Ups Its Stake in Chrysler

The marketability of Jeep brand vehicles abroad is one of the determining factors that led Italian owned automaker Fiat’s leadership to choose to increase its ownership in Chrysler which to 30%. In a recent public statement Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne praised the Jeep brand, which accounts for about ½ of all of Chryslers international sales.

“This is the only true international brand that Chrysler has”, he said. “It defined the segment, Kleenex defined tissues, and Jeep defined SUVs.”

The origins of the Chrysler/Fiat business relationship date back to 2009, when Fiat received 20% ownership in exchange for vehicle and engine technology and a certain amount of management capacity.

The increasing consumer demand for automobiles in the wake of the most recent financial debacle has helped fuel the revival of Chrysler. Certainly, Fiat is of the opinion that Chrysler’s stock prices are presently undervalued and the future is bright for the once bankrupt American auto making mogul.

According to the Chrysler Fiat News website, plans may be in place to increase Fiats ownership in Chrysler to increase to 46% by mid-summer 2011. Presently, Chrysler is still dealing with its current debt obligations with U.S. and Canadian governments. Depending and the progress that is made to work out the company’s lingering financial issues, increased Fiat ownership of the company is a distinct and realistic possibility.

Chrysler currently owes $7.4 billion dollars to the Canadian government and they would have to substantially reduce this debt before Fiat is willing to inject any more capital into the scenario. Beyond that, Chrysler would need to fully pay off is current financial liabilities to the U.S. government as well.
