Attemps Decrease Distracted Driving Not Working

Crashes linked to drivers being distracted behind the wheel caused 5,474 deaths in the year 2009, down from 5,838 a year earlier. They accounted for 16 percent of all road fatalities in 2009, unchanged from the previous year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“These numbers show that distracted driving remains an epidemic in America, and they are just the tip of the iceberg,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood in an e-mailed statement. Although the number of traffic fatalities resulting from talking or texting on mobile phones fell 6% from the previous year, the number of crashes that occur as a direct result of distracted drivers continues to climb t an astonishing rate.

Official statistics most likely underestimate the actual number of accidents caused by distracted driving. In many states, the statistics reported by police fail to document inattention as a primary cause of auto accidents. Some of the many reasons that drivers can lose focus are by talking on and texting on cellular phones and other devices, such as iPods and portable computers. Other activities that can commonly cause distractions while driving include eating, talking, and personal grooming.

As Reported by Automotive News, “Drivers in their 20s are the most likely to be involved in a fatal crash tied to distractions, for mobile phones in particular, the 30- to 39-year-old group had the highest involvement,”

In January the National Highway Safety Counsel discovered that 1.4 million crashes occur each year as a result of drivers using cellular phones and at least 200,000 are added to the statistics when drivers who are texting are considered. All Star Dodge is a Missouri and Illinois Jeep Dealer that wants to spread the message to put down the devices and focus on the task at hand.

After Market Parts to Boost Your Ram’s HP, MPG and Torque

One of the least expensive items that one can buy for their Ram trucks is a performance air filter. These parts are not only cheap, they are easy to install as well. An installed performance air filter can net drivers one to three miles per gallon fuel economy increase and ten to fifteen horsepower increase. More expensive fuel injection kits get you cold air intake tube and even more air flow to your engine with slightly higher horsepower and torque gain.

A nice aftermarket exhaust system will release all of the burnt gases more efficiently. This, in turn, will also help boost your pickup truck’s fuel economy, horsepower, and torque a bit. Most kits come complete with the required hardware, mandrel bent tubing, stainless tips, and comprehensive instructions to get you started.

Another auto part to get a hold of is a performance chip. Performance chips will reeducate the trucks computer to adjust the shift points and fuel curves. The end result is noticeable torque and horsepower improvements. Plus your new Ram have better transmission shift algorithms that will eliminate some of the wear and tear on your vital parts. Hypertech and superchips sell the best chips in the marketplace today. Most of these chips can be installed in less than ½ hour, typically without the usage of any specialized tools.

When Dodge rolled the hot new Dodge Ram body style back in 2002, people took notice. With a vast selection of various trim lines and great engine choices, the sky is the limit with customizing options.  Transform your new or used Ram into an even more desirable truck. Jeep’s Compact SUV is the Compass

The Jeep compass debuted in 2007. This vehicle shares its unibody platform with the more rugged looking Jeep Patriot. This makes the car less truck-like than other body on frame SUVs. Conversely, it gives the Compass a smoother more car-like ride quality. In this sense, most consider the compass to be a more crossover wagon-style vehicle, as opposed to an SUV. The 2011 Jeep Compass also comes with fully independent suspension.

This model year brings a lot of changes to the Compass. The four-wheel-drive system of past versions of the Compass were not recommended for off-road usage. That has changed, Jeep has an available trail rated 4WD system that auto shoppers can take advantage of. Quite a few interior upgrades have been implemented, as have ride and handling aspects of the vehicle.

Compass shares a powertrain with the Jeep Liberty and this component remains the same as in previous years. A 172-horsepower 2.4-liter engine comes standard with all models. Presently, there are three trim levels to choose from; Sport, North, and Limited versions. In all cases, a five-speed manual transmission is included. The 2011 Compass Sports and Norths come with smaller, more fuel efficient 2.0-liter engine options.

If interested, make sure to ask the Jeep dealer representative about the available Freedom-Drive I 4×4 and the Freedom-Drive II Off-Road package. This all-time 4×4 system can easily tackle deep snow and other adverse driving conditions that you may encounter.

The 2011 Compass has undergone a fairly substantial exterior makeover too. A new hood, new front fenders, redesigned headlamps, smaller and wider grill, and new fascia have all been worked in. Quad headlights and fog lamps improve the vision capability of this new Jeep and LED tail lamps have been added on for good measure. Jeep’s New Quadra Lift Air Suspension System

Quadra Lift is definitely one of the best options Jeep has come out with in a long time. Being able to raise or lower your vehicles height, depending on road conditions, with the turn of a switch is fantastic. Quadra Lift uses a closed air system which provides quicker response to drivers request for ride high adjustments. A closed system means the air for system operation is stored in a reservoir instead of using outside air. And of course, all of this occurs automatically.

With the help of air shocks, the system provides five modes of operation. The five modes are: Normal Ride Height, Off Road 1, Off Road 2, Aero Mode and Park mode. Normal Road Height is the starting point and is the height position typically used.

Off Road 1 is for off road use when you speed is between 25 mph and 48 mph. It raises the vehicle for added ground clearance. If your speed moves out of this range it will automatically lower to Normal Ride Height.

Off Road 2 mode is for speeds u p to 20 mph. If you vehicle speed exceeds 25 mph it will automatically lower to Off Road 1. The Aero Mode improves aerodynamics by lowering the vehicle when your speed stays above 50 mph. Park Mode lowers the vehicle for easier entry and exit. Park Mode is a driver selected mode under 15 mph. Over 25 mph the vehicle will automatically return to Normal Ride Height.

A representative at All Star Dodge in Bridgeton, MO will be glad to provide you with more information on this and other vehicle feature. This new and used Jeep dealer serves customers in Jerseyville as well. Come check out Quadra Lift and the new 2011 Jeep.

Off Roading Tips for Beginners

Jeep Dealer near St Peters

So, you have or are planning to get a new 4X4. At some point in time, you are likely going to want to push its limits to see what it is capable of. Obviously, you don’t want to damage your new vehicle, get hurt, or end up in some other precarious situation where you need to get help. Everyone must hit the trails at their own risk, but that does not mean that you should do so without taking the proper precautions. Here are some things to keep in mind that should help ensure that your off road experience is enjoyable.

-Locking or limited slip differential is your friend. What you get here is power to a wheel even if the other wheel that is on the same axle has no traction. This also helps when one of the wheels is elevated off of the ground.

-Don’t forget to pack a tow strap. It just makes sense to always carry one, especially where you are out on trails or in the backcountry.

-If you see someone who’s stuck, go ahead and assist them. It makes for good karma and it’s just the right thing to do.

-It is probably smart to go out with other vehicles. Then, you can help each other out when necessary.

-You should be cautious of straddling big rocks and obstructions. This is a good way to get stuck or to cause you to have to make a trip to the repair shop.

-Drive cautiously over water. It’s tough to judge how deep it is and virtually impossible to account for how deep the mud underneath is. Your truck or SUV is heavy and it will sink. In fact, it could sink down 7 or 8 feet in under certain conditions.
